A forgotten countryside pub in Kiev has been transformed by YØ DEZEEN into the elegant yet cosy family restaurant that is now Toscana Grill.
The eight-year-old establishment is located in the tiny town of Bucha. The owners wanted to repurpose the pub from being just a stop-off for weary road-trippers into a charismatic and cosy restaurant for families, couples and noisy get-togethers.
The space underwent a complete interior overhaul and is now made up of two rooms, namely beer and wine rooms, that humbly boast an eclectic balance of informal bar charm and upper echelon elegance, respectively. The wine room features floor-to-ceiling mesh shelves that showcase exclusive collections of fine wine and cognac. The elegantly furnished space features custom-made furniture and a soft, radiant ambiance created by indirect lighting.
The beer room is created in absolute contrast to the wine room and features an informal ambiance reminiscent of an authentic London pub. The centrepiece is a house-like metal structure that functions as a booth for large groups, while the lighting and ceiling fixtures ooze industrial inspiration. The walls are decorated with contemporary clip-art showcasing the illustrated process of beer brewing. A larger-than-life beer and wine cellar sees a butcher block illuminated by a chandelier that has wineglass-like lights.
