Watch this short documentary explaining the principles of arcology, the combination of ecology and architecture in the experimental Arizona town of Arcosanti.
The project was founded in 1970 by Italian architect Paolo Soleri and has been built by over 7 000 volunteers since its inception.

Using innovative, eco-friendly and community-based design, the concept is to create a self-sustaining and self-contained city.

Arcosanti receives over 30 000 visitors annually and also runs a variety of cultural and educational programmes.
