Tropical Space’s Pottery Workshop

WORDS Michaela Stehr

Tropical Space has created a striking pottery workshop and studio space for Vietnamese artist and sculptor Le Duc Ha.

The 7 x 7 metre cube is built with solid clay bricks, and is inspired by traditional pottery techniques. The grid-like pattern encourages airflow for the drying of pottery, as well as the introduction of nature into the space.

Inside, bamboo scaffolding rises three levels high, acting as a display area for completed works.

This middle of the structure houses the turntable where each piece is made. This is placed under an opening whereby people can watch Le Duc Ha working from a different perspective.
