Pantone Color of the Year 2023

Pantone has announced its colour of the year for 2023, a vibrant shade of red called PANTONE Viva Magenta 18-1750.

Described as an ‘unconventional red for an unconventional time’, PANTONE Viva Magenta 18-1750, the 2023 Pantone Color of the Year, was inspired by the natural red of cochineal (a natural red dye found in insects).

“Rooted in the primordial, PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta reconnects us to original matter. Invoking the forces of nature, PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta galvanises our spirit, helping us to build our inner strength,” says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute.

A nuanced crimson red tone that presents a balance between warm and cool, the shade is also a hybrid colour, one that comfortably straddles the physical and virtual, evocative of our multi-dimensional world. Tapping into the experimental spirit of the hue, Pantone has explored the dynamic
between Artificial Intelligence and human creativity to create “The Magentaverse.”

Pantone’s Magentaverse is made up of eight complementary colours, including PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta:

To help people bring the new “It” colour into homes, Pantone is partnering with custom wallpaper and fabric brand Spoonflower. The Viva Magenta Design Challenge invites artist to submit designs inspired by the hue.
