Sasol is building its new corporate office on Katherine Street in Sandton, Johannesburg.
The suburb of Sandton appears to be in the process of strong architectural growth. Last week we shared Paragon Architects‘ latest project and now they’ve taken on the task of designing Sasol’s new headquarters too. The layout is based on the design of the company’s logo, which features a central sphere surrounded by six rotating spheres.
Paragon Architects mirrored this concept by designing a central hubspace with other areas linked by a series of bridges. The 10-storey building will span almost 70 000sqm and provide a workspace for 7000 people.
Two large skylights allow natural light to permeate the space and create an open atmosphere. The façade is a reflective glass structure, which is designed to increase visibility to the outside world while still providing privacy and discretion.
Externally, the park-like outdoor areas include courtyards, braai and yoga facilities with water-wise planted areas. Sasol has provided a habitat to promote and encourage indigenous birdlife.
The project is scheduled to be completed in 2016.
