Hospitality brand SALT introduces its new flagship offering, SALT of Palmar, an experiential hotel that immerses guests in Mauritian culture and cuisine.
Originally designed by acclaimed Mauritian architect Maurice Giraud back in 2005, the SALT of Palmar buildings lead straight onto the white sands of Palmar beach. Transformed by Mauritian architect Jean François Adam in collaboration with French designer Camille Walala, the overhauled hotel now houses 59 rooms overlooking the ocean, lush gardens or the 25-metre-long Instagram-worthy lap pool.
Revered for her statement colourful style Camille (whose giant mural we featured here) hand-picked gems created by talented local craftspeople from all around the island. Her refreshing, fun concept is an ideal playground for the curious traveller. Local motifs are everywhere; savour Mauritian chicken curry from homespun ceramics, pack a picnic into handwoven beach bags, and enjoy eco-friendly toiletries in each room. Sustainability and eco-consciousness are at the core of SALT’s operations. They follow a strict single-use plastic, bio-farming and zero-waste policy.
More than a destination hotel, SALT of Palmar offers authentic Mauritian experiences headed up by locals. Make pottery with Janine at her Pamplemousses studio, help out at the SALT hydroponic farm, catch fish at sunrise with Kishor, coach football with Fabrice, or master the art of basket weaving with Mrs Bulleeram in Brisée Verdière.
