The spectacular Musée Yves Saint Laurent will be opening its doors in Marrakech next year, featuring over 4 000m² of floor space.
The museum will exhibit an extensive array of pieces by the French fashion designer, including a selection from the Foundation Pierre Bergé, consisting of 15 000 haute couture accessories, 5 000 garments, as well as an extensive archive of sketches and inspirational objets.
Designed by French architecture firm Studio KO, the structure houses a 400m² permanent exhibition space within the 4 000m² interior. The museum will also feature a temporary exhibition space, a bookshop, a library, a restaurant with outdoor seating, an auditorium and a research library.
The building’s exterior is constructed from cubic forms covered in brickwork, which creates an effect evocative of thread and fabric. The interior is made to look like an inner lining – soft, luxurious and smooth.
The new museum will pay homage to Saint Laurent’s work and is set to open in autumn 2017.
