Mia Widlake X Mr Price Home

COMPILED BY Lindi Brownell Meiring

Homeware designer Mia Widlake (of STUDIO 19) has once again teamed up with Mr Price Home to create a cool collaborative collection.

We caught up with her to find out what inspired this exciting new range.

What was the inspiration behind the collaboration?

We are living through a period in our South African history where we are in desperate need of positive inspiration from our leaders. I decided to focus the collaboration on a few people who I consider to be heroes, people whose efforts and sacrifices highlight the spirit of love, peace and equality.

Nelson Mandela, Miriam Makeba, Nadine Gordimer, Mahatma Gandhi and each of their iconic quotes will hopefully serve as a small daily reminder – on a wall, desk or sofa – to be a kinder and more tolerant person.

What do you love about collaboration in design?

The best thing about this particular collaboration is that Mr Price Home facilitated the production of the range from sampling to final product. No one realises that production facilitation is in fact the hardest and most laborious part of the entire design process. Imagine dreaming up a range and then ‘Poof!’ it’s real! It’s just like having a fairy godmother with an instant factory in her back pocket.

Which one of the pieces is your favourite, and why?

It’s so hard to choose, but I would have to say the woven geometric rug and ottoman are my favourites. Pattern on pattern in black, white and grey… just the way I like it.

The range will be available in Mr Price Home stores and online from the beginning of November 2015.
