Every year prior to the start of the Design Indaba Festival the nominees for the Most Beautiful Object in South Africa are revealed – and opened up to the public for voting.
Announced on the final day of the Design Indaba conference last year, the title of 2016’s Most Beautiful Object in South Africa went to Laduma Ngxokolo of MaXhosa for his beautiful shawl, while in 2015, it went to the Boomslang in Kirstenbosch.
Below, in no particular order, you’ll find the 10 nominees for 2017 (which you can vote for here). You can read more about each nominated design/project on page 136 and 137 in the Design Issue of VISI (VISI 88 – on sale Monday 6 February).
