BenBen is a new homegrown design brand for kids, bursting with fun and mindful items for children and their spaces.
Celeste and Alain Ferrier had their child in August 2019, then rapidly experienced a pandemic and lockdown with their little one – a time during which “the importance of child development and the role that space performs in this were revealed to us,” says Celeste. And so they set out to design and manufacture kid-friendly products for the home, while aligning this with their belief that sustainability and environmental awareness are key to preserving our planet for the benefit of everyone’s children.
The result is BenBen: a collection of fun, functional objects for kids that range from adorable height charts to playful clocks – including one shaped like a fried egg that we think a lot of adults will covet for their kitchens – and charming night lights. The delightful pegboard storage piece is perfect for all the tiny treasures that kids accumulate so readily – and, of course, for helping to teach them about the benefits of clearing up all their things regularly!
BenBen products contain no single-use plastics (in fact, almost no plastic at all), and feature plantable labelling, sustainable birch ply timber, and non-toxic, biodegradable paint. All are locally made, and are packaged in hemp bags and recycled or recyclable boxes. “We want to inspire creativity through curiosity,” says Celeste. “Our pledge is to continually develop products that are safe, fun and practical. We will always source locally and make sure we use as little plastic as possible. We intend to create products that are low-impact and high-quality, and that are built to last.”
