In Durban this month? Take the opportunity to revel in the work of Peter Rich. An exhibition that’s a testament to the architect’s commitment to African architecture opens next week.
The KZN Institute for Architecture is hosting a multi-media exhibition tracing his work to date – and you’re invited to the opening cocktail function on Wednesday, 14 September. The exhibition entitled Peter Rich: Leant in Translation will follow at the KZNSA Gallery.
The encompassing exhibition will include drawings, models and photographs of completed projects, as well as design development sketches, which will enable visitors to gain an understanding of the thinking underpinning the projects.
Displayed alongside the architectural works are the influences that have shaped Peter and his architecture: his beautiful travel sketches from around the world, his extensive research into space making in Ndebele architecture, and examples of African art.
The award-winning architect, who scooped the 2009 World Building of the Year Award, was also made an Honorary Fellow of the American Institute of Architects in 2010 and recognised in the same year with a South African Institute of Architects Gold Medal and the Absolut VISI Designer of the Year Award.
The exhibition will run until 1 October at KZNSA (166 Bulwer Road, Glenwood), and the opening starts at 5.30pm for 6pm. Please RSVP if you’d like to attend.
