No more bathroom boredom

Move over bland, colour-coordinated towels and bath mats; bold and bright accessories are “en vogue” right now.

No longer a room that’s governed by the rule that “basic is best”, but rather a space where you can dare to be daring, the bathroom is the next designer frontier.

Incorporate an eye-catching oversized cushion where you can kick back and relax in your colourful haven. Our pick is a floral number by Laurence Brick for Wunders. The fabric is Mariedal in Penny from the Sofienberg Collection by Designers Guild and is available at R195 p/m at Home Fabrics.

Splash out on Sanindusa’s Green Morfys basin, which will have guests green with envy. At R4,400, this feature piece is available from Ferreiras. And although our scene doesn’t have the real thing, we think the Hansgrohe Metris 230 Mixer would make an excellent accompaniment to the bright basin.

Add a dash of quirk to your shelves with a Box T-shirt by Adriann Kuiters from Co-op (R300), a lollipop sponge (R30) or a washing peg wall hook (R490 for two), both from Big Blue. Add more cheek with Silestone’s quartz surfaces. Available in various colours from Union Tiles, we used a few squares to perk up the bottom shelf.

Dokter and Misses contribute a dash of local design flair to our rainbow boudoir. Their toothbrush holder is cool in white at R350, while their Tube rail at R689 creates contrast. The cheeky Chekas bin (R450) will put your recycled shopping bags to good use.

Forget tiles and give your feet a treat with Anatolan’s incredible patchwork rugs from R55,000, available via Paco Rugs.

Finally, let Glodina towels (from R100) add the last few pops of colour. Be brave and buy towels in clashing colours – the easiest way to add more interest to your bright bathroom.
