Commissioned by the Slovenian Mountaineer Association, the Mount Kanin cabin is intended for the use of climbers and is built to withstand the most brutal of weather conditions.
Completed in 2016, the objective behind building this 9.7 m2 cabin is to measure its response to the adverse weather conditions that come with an icy, snowy winter. “The harsh conditions of wind, snow, landslides, terrain and weather require a response of specific architectural forms, structures and concept,” explain the OFIS team.
Accessible by helicopter or hiking, the site has 360 degree views of the breathtaking Slovenian and bordering Italian landscape. Made from timber, glass, stone wool and aluminium panels, the cabin provides accommodation for up to nine people, with simple, no-fuss interiors and large glazed windows. | ofis.si
