We’ve gone green. Reflecting a growing design trend, the leafy pages of VISI 144 have plants and outdoor/indoor gardens as a strong theme throughout – from our featured homes, which embrace nature and the surrounding landscape; to Stories about new fabrics and wallpapers with garden- and forest-themed patterns. Even the Brutalists are going a bit green (page 76).
We’ve also gone to Milan. Salone del Mobile – the world’s premier annual furniture and design fair – invited us to visit their massive event at Fiera Milano (think CTICC or Nasrec, times 10). Turns out, Salone was also fascinated with green – in fact, with all of nature’s hues, if you look at the colour palette favoured by the world’s leading decor brands. You can read my Salone trend-spotting highlights on page 168.
Julia’s gone to Brazil. Julia Franco, owner of interiors store NOSSO, was in Brazil again (you may remember reading her travel diary in VISI 134), and she reports back on the latest Brazilian trends on page 88. I saw quite a lot of Brazilian-designed furniture at Salone too – there’s some really cool stuff coming out of there at the moment. Like South Africa, Brazil is having a design moment, and I’m seeing strong parallels in approach and practice.
And Martin’s gone and joined us. You’ll no doubt have clocked Martin Jacobs’s name in our previous issues – he’s written many features for us, and compiled the VISI Bathrooms special section in our last issue and the Outdoors one in #141. We’re delighted to have this talented creative director, writer and stylist on board as our new contributing editor.
