WeWOOD time pieces have made their way to South Africa from Florence, Italy. They’re eco-friendly and luxuriously designed and there isn’t much “WeWood’nt” do to get one of these watches on our wrists.
“WeWOOD is the avant-garde approach to sophisticated sustainability,” the company says, with every watch sold locally sponsoring the planting of a tree in South Africa.
“The philosophy of using wood means we will demand more wood, and with increased demand we will plant more trees. Many people think that the less wood we use the better; but not if it is wood used through sustainable forestation.”
Timber has taken a modern twist in these functional pieces that are crafted from 100% natural wood, with 11 different models in various combinations of wood types. Due to the choice of material used, each WeWOOD watch is feather-light, natural, hypo-allergenic and completely free of toxic materials.
WeWOOD watches are available in two designs – The WeWOOD Date and the WeWOOD Crono. Four types of wood are used, namely:
Red Wing Celtis (brown)
This tree is used for flooring, and when possible, WeWOOD utilizes offcuts that would otherwise be destroyed.
Ebony (black)
This is a tree that the Greeks called “fruit of the gods” and it was used as an antidote for poisons. Even today, there are those who believe that this wood is able to ward off evil spirits.
Maple (beige)
The wood of this tree is often used for smoking food. It’s also used to create many musical instruments such as violins and guitars.
Guaiaco (army)
A tree native to South America, it’s used in pharmaceutical preparations of herbal teas.
WeWOOD Time Pieces will be sold through the official South African WeWOOD online store. Delivery throughout South Africa is free. The Official WeWOOD Store is situated at 208 Albert Road, Woodstock, Cape Town.
