Ulla-Stina Wikander’s Needlepoint Creations

WORDS Mary Garner

Swedish artist and designer Ulla-Stina Wikander uses needlepoint to revive old household items.

She rejuvenates old, broken down tools and appliances by covering them with historical cross-stitch embroidery patterns.

”For more than ten years I have collected cross-stitch embroideries and today I have quite a big collection with over 100 different designs,” says Ulla-Stina.

She frequents vintage shops and flea markets to hunt for items such as telephones, mixers, scales, irons, shoes, sewing machines and hairdryers. “Some of the small objects like an iron or a telephone take me a day or two to make, but the bigger installations take weeks to finish,” she says.
