Attracting 620 entries from over 60 countries, the final 20 winners of the Restaurant and Bar Design Awards were announced at a ceremony held at the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) in London last month.
The Best Restaurant title was awarded to A Cantina(Spain) by Estudio Nomada, followed by the Best Bar title winner, Graffiti (Bulgaria) by Studio Mode. Other winners were announced in various other regions and categories, including Best Pop up Restaurant, Best Pub and Best Standalone Restaurant.
The adjudication panel included design director Alberto Alessi, Taschen editor Julius Weddeman, American artist Matthew Clarke and Casa Vogue’s Taissa Buesco, alongside 19 other prestigious designers, architects and hospitality personalities.
The main criteria was to reward entrants for design excellence. Said the Brazilian magazine editor-in-chief, Taissa: “Design excellence is based on deep research. Research of forms, materials, techniques, colours, finishings, details. Research of design history and its professionals. Research of different cultures and traditions. Research of human beings and their needs. In a quest for a never-seen-before-design, somehow innovative, that contributes to the evolution of the design world.”
