WORDS Michaela Stehr
This chic Johannesburg restaurant at The Saxon Hotel exudes an air of opulence and theatre.
As you enter the foyer of the restaurant, a black-and-white projection plays scenes from Cape Town’s The Test Kitchen, and large glass double doors signify the sophistication that lies inside.
Sandalene Dale-Roberts was in charge of the full revamp of the space and is the mastermind behind the decor at The Test Kitchen, The Shortmarket Club and The Pot Luck Club.
For this space, she wanted to create a feeling of richness, while keeping a local Joburg vibe. A black-and-white open-plan kitchen sets the backdrop for rich wooden tones, plush blue upholstery and touches of brass. Twenty-two botanical drawings by local artist Shaune Rogatschnig adorn the walls.
The Saxon has been nominated for an Eat Out 2016 Boschendal Style Award.
The restaurant is situated at 36 Saxon Road, Sandhurst, Johannesburg and is open Tuesday to Saturday for dinner. Email tablereservations@saxon.co.za to book.
