SAOTA’s Clifton Home

Architectural team SAOTA have designed a contemporary family residence with incredible sea and mountain views.

The owners wanted a modern and flexible abode that would adapt to its natural sloping and angular surroundings. Situated just below Cape Town’s Lion’s Head, the home boasts 270 degree views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Twelve Apostles mountain range.

‘Due to the steepness of the site and the resultant excavation, the structural frame of the house virtually follows the natural ground level – this inherent drama was expressed as part of the overall aesthetic of the house’, says project leader, Tamaryn Fourie.

The main aesthetic portrayed from the exterior conveys thin steel edging against a large concrete contemporary structure.
