Remedy for Braamfontein

After enthusiastic responses at the Arts on Main market in Johannesburg, Remedy has found a permanent spot to sell their line of accessories and resurrected custom furniture.

Joining the designer ranks at 70 Juta Street, Remedy owners Jean Wiid and Jessica Baylis say Braamfontein couldn’t be a better location. “It’s a vibrant, youthful development where creatives are building an exciting, inner-city community,” says Jean.

While the community grows, so does Remedy’s collection of designer items. As their name suggests, the Remedy duo upcycle interesting pieces of unwanted furniture. “We enjoy revealing the true building blocks of a piece, for example sanding back a varnish to discover the natural wood grain,” says Jean. “We embrace the true character of the material. We also really enjoy being able to put our own mark onto a piece, redefining it.”

Along with their upcycled items, Remedy also creates bespoke pieces, a line of silk-screen accessories, prints and scatter cushions, and even offers an offbeat interior-design service. “We’re passionate about a clean aesthetic and bold, unapologetic colour. We draw from our vivid urban context for design inspiration.”

Is this the new stop for edgy urbanites looking to redecorate? We definitely think so.

Remedy opens 4 August at 70 Juta Street, Braamfontein.
