Cape Town-based jewellery design brand PICHULIK has launched a brand-new collection for Autumn/Winter 2018, entitled Talisman For Rain.
The collection, made up of earthy tones and shades of green, takes inspiration from local surroundings. “While driving through the Cederberg, I was amazed by the abundance of green and the way nature expresses itself in such subtle hues,” says designer Katherine-Mary Pichulik. “Even in areas where it hadn’t rained, I noticed that some indigenous plants survived while others did not. But where there was life, it was green.”
Katherine-Mary wanted to create pieces that double as totems and talismans, as pieces that bind people together and are imbued with a certain power. “I wanted the pieces to have an ancient, sacred feel,” she says.
The collection makes use of materials like jade and cattle horn, as seen in the Earth Mother design, as well as faux malachite, red jasper, freshwater pearls, serpentine, brass and the trademark yacht rope PICHULIK has become renowned for. Also included as part of the range are PICHULIK’s new stackable disk rings.
The brand has teamed up once again with designer Nadya von Stein to create a range of sustainable garments that perfectly echo the colour palette of the jewellery in this range. PICHULIK has also collaborated with Cape Town-based accessory label Missibaba to create two bags that align with totemic earrings featured in the collection.
Talisman for Rain launches on 3 May 2018 at AKJP Collective on Kloof Street, Cape Town and will be available to buy online at pichulik.com from 17 May 2018.
