Each furniture piece at the new Sarah Ord Interiors store in Cape Town reflects a sophisticated, romantic, yet comfortable style that pops with rich, saturated colours.
Shoppers can perch on Sarah’s exquisite Comino sofas, Floriana wingback chairs and Mdina dining chairs, upholstered in the new Sarah Ord fabric range, surrounded by a beautifully curated selection of homeware and interior accessories. Sarah named her chairs after towns in Malta, paying tribute to the homeland of her husband, Nigel Pace, general manager of the Cape Grace Hotel.
She drew inspiration for her Tesserae fabric range from antique painted tiles found all over the world. “Centuries of traffic, emotions, whispers and cloak hemlines have passed over these tiles giving their story a particular patina,” says Sarah. “It’s interesting to note that there are tiles of some sort in most cultures in the world and the subtle or bold colours that accompany them are truly inspiring.”
Her range features two distinct designs which she calls the Ravello and the Palma: Ravello is drawn from the Mediterranean tiles of the Italian Amalfi coast, while Palma is inspired by a kitchen wall in a Mallorcan villa where each tile had been dissected diagonally and each half painted in a different colour.
The fabrics are available in three colourways: Nile (think Eau de Nil pale aqua); Campari (reminiscent of latin heat); and Lemon (inspired by Mediterranean terraces planted with lemons and olive trees).
The decor range will be extended to include an additional three fabric designs and two more furniture pieces as well as a tableware range for next season.
Sarah Ord Interiors can be found at 215 Bree Street, Cape Town.
