Local ceramist Mervyn Gers has released a new revised range of dinner plates inspired by the ‘paper’ plate.

Mervyn Gers Ceramics, renowned for its uniquely handcrafted dinnerware, decor, and tiles, has reinvented its paper dinner plate to enhance its functionality.

Like all their pieces, the paper dinner plate is truly a handmade piece, with no two items being the same. “The design of the paper dinner plate is gaining popularity, but the original plate was too flat for wet foods like curries, goulashes, and stroganoff. Therefore, we raised the sides slightly to contain saucy foods. In doing so, we also defined the scalloped edges more, reinventing the ‘paper’ plate,” explains Marketing and Sales Director, Shireen Ridgway.

The scalloped edges on the plate require even more attention to detail, with craftsmen honing their skills on this intricate design. “People are always seeking something unusual, and the quirky play on the outdoor ‘paper plate’ meets that desire. These plates are also becoming increasingly popular with restaurants, and we are receiving more enquiries. They can be ordered directly from us and, hopefully, will soon be available on Yuppiechef,” says Shireen.

As with all Mervyn Gers Ceramics, you can order the paper dinner plate in over 55 glaze colours, including the popular Rockpool, Churchhaven, Fynbos, and Fig Green hues.

The local ceramic brand is about individuality, beauty and durable design. “Keep your ears to the ground,” says Shireen of the innovative new designs launching soon. | mervyngers.com
