Inside Chef Alessandro Borghese’s Milan Restaurant

WORDS Cheri Morris

The year 2017 saw the launch of pioneering Italian chef and culinary rock ‘n’ roller Alessandro Borghese’s highly anticipated restaurant Il lusso della semplicità (The Luxury of Simplicity) in Milan, Italy.

The glamorously simple dining area is reflective of Alessandro’s colourful, fast-paced and dynamic cooking style. A desire for originality and versatility saw Alessandro partner with sintered stone masters Neolith to create an interior deserving of its world-class cuisine and cosmopolitan location.

Mixed tones and contrasts of wood, marble, metal and granite-like stone finishes evoke an atmosphere reminiscent of the Golden Age’s transatlantic cruise liners (with a signature Alessandro twist). Bar worktops made from Neolith Calcatta Silk have Alessandro’s adventurous culinary concepts served directly onto them. He compares his worktops to the canvasses of painters. Taking this unusual concept one step further, he serves tapas-style dishes on smaller, bespoke-cut pieces of Neolith Sintered Stone.

Alessandro calls cooking the new rock ‘n’ roll; a glamorous industry with universal appeal where accomplished performance is essential to success. His aim was not only to deliver exceptional cooking, but also an interior that reflects the high standards of the cuisine.
