WORDS Malibongwe Tyilo
A group of established local creatives are getting together to launch the inaugural Imbadu Collective, an event that will see them exhibit their work at the Guga S’thebe Arts and Culture Centre in Langa.
The goal of the project is to take their creative output into communities that don’t ordinarily have the easy access city residents get, while at the same time extending the legacy of World Design Capital 2014. Through the exhibition, workshops and demonstrations, they hope to inspire, educate, and ultimately facilitate economic development for budding creatives within township communities.
You can expect to see work from well-known names such as Andile Dyalvane of Imiso ceramics, illustrator Atang Tshikare, designer Vukile Batyi, Laduma Ngxokolo of MaXhosa Knitwear and accessories designer Inga Gubeka of Indalo. Check out VISI 76 to see our interviews with Atang Tshikare and Andile Dyalvane on their recent artistic collaborations.
The Imbadu collective launch event is taking place on 19 February 2015 at Guga S’thebe in Langa. The exhibition will run until 25 February. Visit imbaducollective.co.za for more information.
