Fresh Coat

Back in the 70s, Oxford resident Annie Sloan traded a blossoming rock-music career to follow her artist’s heart and passion for paint. She snubbed the likes of David Bowie and Mick Jagger, and started a paint-effects business, wrote more than 20 bestseller books on the subject and developed Chalk Paint, a revolutionary decorative paint that can be applied to just about any surface.

The good news is that Chalk Paint is now available in South Africa. It works on anything – from furniture and concrete, to floors and walls, inside and outside. It requires no sanding or preparation – one coat is all that’s needed – and it dries quickly.

With 32 colours, the palette is inspired by 18th-century decor, and ranges from pastels to brights that can easily be mixed in an infinite number of combinations. End it off with a lick of Annie’s Soft Wax for added lustre. Its low VOCs (Volatile Organic Compound) also makes it safe to use in children’s rooms.
