Designers We Love: Victor Aleman

WORDS Debbie Loots

Super-sized tacos and enchiladas, even pretzels, are what come to mind when viewing Mexican designer Victor Aleman’s range of furniture, Eva.

Now his contorted forms and optical trickery are available in South Africa, thanks to Tracey Gradidge’s company Coco Sky Lifestyles.

After 12 years of working for various interior design companies, Tracey decided to take the plunge and start her own business focusing primarily on importing the works of talented international designers, starting with Victor.

Combining digital manufacturing processes and handcraft, Victor’s made-to-order furniture includes the Loopita, a birch plywood and stainless steel pool lounger straight out of a James Bond film set, and the Mua, a giant heart-shaped swinging chair that portrays whimsy with sturdiness. Made of super strong inox, a high-quality stainless steel produced in Europe, this suspended seat is finished off in electrostatic paint in a choice of white, black or grey.

Tracey is the exclusive distributor of Eva in Africa and says she “especially loves that Victor’s pieces look and feel like art but at the same time breathe functionality and comfort”.
