Leg Studios will be exhibiting for the first time at the 2015 Design Indaba Expo, so be sure to check them out.

What does design mean to you?

Design means to play, to experiment and to consider… we do this in our roles as installation architects and equally in our new roles as product designers.

Our diverse backgrounds in architecture, theatre design and interior design enable us to deliver richly collaborative projects in the stage, events and installation industries, all of which have looked after Leg Studios for nine years.

The LSD by Leg Studios venture only started at the beginning of 2014. For a while we had been keen to start playing in parallel creative realms, and product design allowed us that opportunity; an opportunity to ponder, play and have a point of view outside of the ‘brand’ related world, which we normally work in.

This new venture has and will continue to be a huge learning experience for us, but one we are happy to be taking on.

There is an interesting synergy between the designers at Leg Studios. Often we go off on lonely tangents, then come together again, realising a common thread and building on it. Those are the fun, collaborative moments out of which our products are born… as we streamline our materials, merge our textures and patterns, and play with detail.

Across the board, we love layering highly polished and beautifully finished material with honest, raw materials. Our detail is sharp, our lines are simple and there is little fuss; even if complex.

What are you most looking forward to experiencing at Design Indaba?

Feedback to our work is always important, so we are looking forward to getting local and international opinion and gauging how our products are received. We are also planning a very exciting collaborative project, which will bring together various artists and illustrators, featuring one of our furniture pieces.
