Design Joburg: DARLINGS

WORDS Cheri Morris

This May, Design Joburg: Darlings sees the Sandton Convention Centre transformed into Johannesburg’s premier design and decor event.

The new show will be hosting an imaginative stand that sees the fusion of the latest wares of some of South Africa’s most prominent designers, entitled DARLINGS. An initially small and fun idea that turned into a large-scale installation on its own due to an overwhelming response, the stand will feature the work of designers that epitomise the creative and energetic characteristics of the current South African design scene; the darlings of local design.

You can expect to see brand new designs and the reveal of fresh new ranges, including a new chair collection by Haldane Martin, new stools by Laurie Wiid van Heerden, lighting and furniture by Mlondolozi Hempe, tables by Lemon, lighting from Studio 19, pinch bowl creations from Imiso Ceramics, lighting from Minima and a dynamic fabric collection by Heather Moore of Skinny laMinx, inspired by her water-wise rooftop garden. Paper artist Elonah O’Neill will also be creating a 3D installation.

The show will run from 12 to 14 May 2017.
