Design Indaba Emerging Creatives Call To Entry 2022

Design Indaba Emerging Creatives Call To Entry 2022

WORDS Cheri Morris

Calling all emerging illustrators, architects, jewellers, multidisciplinary artists, graphic designers and furniture designers: submit your work for Design Indaba’s Emerging Creatives programme for 2022.

The programme, founded in 2005, is one of the country’s longest-running emerging talent support structures – one that provides South Africa’s future generation of designers with a platform, support, education and mentorship. Throughout its many years of successful talent nurturing, it has helped launch lauded young designers such as Mpho Vackier, Laduma Ngxokolo, Katherine-Mary Pichulik and Rich Mnisi, to name a few.

2022’s addition will see fourty mavericks from across South Africa showcase their work on the digital Design Indaba platform. The final selection will be made by two curators, fashion designers Lukhanyo Mdingi and Ditiro Mashigo, both of whom are former Emerging Creatives.

While the format of the programme has gone wholly digital because of shifts caused by the pandemic, it still offers the same level of support and opportunity in the form of newly expanded online workshops hosted by industry experts. Once a designer is selected as an Emerging Creative, they will be featured on the designindaba.com platform and receive a year of prolonged national and international media exposure including online video, web articles and social media posts.

Submissions for 2022 will close on 30 October 2021. Submit your entry here.
