Cool Office Space: Kolektif House

WORDS Cheri Morris

Istanbul-based design studio KONTRA has turned traditional office design on its head with an unusual and innovative take on an office space, featured in their latest project Kolektif House.

Located in Levent, one of Istanbul’s most important business centres, Kolektif House was designed under the art directorship of Meyir Gabayspans. Exuding the effect of an artistic installation more than an office space, all of the furniture used in the project was specially designed and manufactured by KONTRA.

Kolektif House spans across 2 700 square metres and is designed to accommodate business people of varying needs. It holds 75 private offices and 150 nomad member spaces that boast meeting rooms, lounge areas, conferences halls, a cafe and even yoga classes. This new generation office space is an eccentric expression of both design and art alike. The interior sees a contemporary yet edgy combination of materials, such as restored firebricks, raw iron, exposed concrete, OSB (oriented strand board), glass and wood. Its distinct industrial style makes it a fresh city centrepiece.

Green gardens bring a fresh touch of nature to the wooden terraces that separate office from landscape. Conference rooms and other interior elements were also designed with a “green approach” and feature nature-inspired wall graphics and carpets with water-colour effects. They might be all about work, but they sure know how to play, too; various work tables are easily converted into ping-pong tables and beanbag chairs offer a relaxing embrace. Who wouldn’t want to go to work here?
