CT Art Fair: 4 Things To Look Forward To

WORDS Malibongwe Tyilo IMAGES Lady Skollie / Cape Town Art Fair

The 19th to the 21st of February 2016 will see thousands of art lovers descend on the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) for the fourth edition of the Cape Town Art Fair.

We are of course very excited to see some of the best art from our country (and our continent) under one roof, and here are four reasons why:

The Venue

This is the first time the fair will be held at the CTICC, a far bigger venue than it’s ever been in before, giving the fair an opportunity to grow on a much larger scale.

The Talks Programme

There will be a number of talks throughout the duration of the fair, where expert panels will enlighten us on issues ranging from global biennials to cultural institutions and the roles they play in an art world dominated by commercial galleries and large scale art fairs. Visit capetownartfair.co.za to view the full programme.

Tomorrows/Today Exhibition

This is one of the first special projects of the Cape Town Art Fair, co-curated by Director of the Lagos Photo Festival and Head of the African Artists’ foundation, Azu Nwagbogu, alongside Ruth Simbao, professor of Art History at Rhodes University. The project will feature solo representations by eight young artists who are at the cutting edge of contemporary art production.

The Vibe

There’s no doubting the buzz around the city as art lovers from all over the world visit Cape Town. This also creates an opportunity for others to host a variety of events to make the most of the exposure. As it is, we’re already looking forward to art parties, exhibition openings and off-site performances. To see a consolidated list of happenings, visit artweekcapetown.co.za.
