There is no denying that for the last few years, some of the most exciting fashion innovation has come through in menswear runway shows, and without a doubt one of the biggest trends in menswear this year has been the influence of – typically – womenswear trends.

As the world slowly shifts its attitudes to gender, we see these changes reflected on the catwalk, and in South Africa, it’s no different.

At the recent Autumn/Winter 2016 collections shown at South African Menswear Week during the first week of February 2016, it was clear that this trend was not going anywhere anytime soon. An androgynous and gender non-binary approach was present in a number of ranges; from skirts, dresses, sheer fabrics and drapey wide-legged pants through to one of this season’s biggest catwalk trends, the male jumpsuit.
