Johannesburg-based interior design studio, Blackline Retail Interiors, headed up by Interior Architect, Snejana Ivanova, played with light and shade to transform a plain white-box industrial office into a dream studio space.
A row of vertical, dusty-copper mirrors greet you in the reception as you walk in and draw your eye upwards to the second floor office bar and meeting spaces. The moody charcoal-grey boardroom is separated from the bright open-plan office space with metallic blinds.
The main working space itself is flooded with natural light from the double-height windows that line the walls, and is illuminated at night with dramatic custom light fittings, carefully chosen to make maximum use of the generous ceiling height.
The raw-wood feature walls, which you can find dotted throughout the office’s interior, combined with a giant living room divider, packed with potted plants, add life and warmth to the formerly stark space. Similarly, the eye-catching sliced solid tree-trunk boardroom table is instrumental in bringing the outdoors in.
For Snejana, it was important that the Blackline Retail Interiors studio space reflected the brand’s aesthetic and ethos for customers and employees alike. “We are passionate about designing spaces that spark conversation, create memorable experiences and evoke emotional responses,” says Snejana. “This is what we set out to achieve in our own studio interior – a happy space for people to create and share ideas.”
