Starck’s Indian masterpiece

There seems to be no end to the creative enigma that is Philippe Starck. His latest project – a residential paradise in India – confirms once again that he’s a man on a mission.

The residential estate called Yoo Pune speaks of sustainability, safety and luxury. Located in Magarpatta, India’s first settlement to be certified for its environmental awareness, it sits just outside the city of Pune in the state of Maharashtra.

In collaboration with Indian project developer Panchshils Realty, You Pune will be completed by 2014 and will include 228 family apartments. Six towers will rise up out of the landscape, offering breathtaking views of a historic rain forest with trees that are up to 100 years old.

As an embodiment of Philippe’s “Good living with good design” approach, the units offer space for four bedrooms, while the living room is the heart of each apartment. Since the people of India are very family-oriented, care has been taken to ensure that the generous dining area is in keeping with the cultural standing of Indian cuisine.

Philippe has developed two distinct interior styles for contemporary apartments: “Classic” epitomises elegant, timeless design with dark wooden floors and somber tones, while “Nature” echoes the rain-forest environment with light wooden floors and plenty of natural light.

Our favourite part of the design? The distinctive sharp lines and pops of colour that we’ve learnt to associate with the prolific French designer.
