Annemarie Meintjes lends a dash of French flair – and new functionality – to snubbed alien vegetation.
Now that the “green police” are felling alien trees that have been rooted on our pavements and mountain slopes for years (long before any member of their team was born), tree stumps and logs have become easily available. The good news is that they make excellent stools.
For a cute, quirky seating solution, simply cover segments of discarded wood – of various heights and shapes – with woollen berets in your choice of colours. If the fit is too tight, wet the beret before stretching it over the log. You’ll find berets for as little as R20 each (from traders on the pavements where the trees once stood).
For a softer seat, cut a circle of high-density foam and slip it between the trunk and the beret.
