Iranian-American artist Hadieh Shafie creates mesmerising optical artworks from hand-dyed and -rolled paper scrolls.
Simple strips of paper are dipped into carefully selected dyes and then tightly bound and placed together within a boundary to create a striking geometric pattern.
The scrolls create a single large-scale piece of art made from individual paper components. From afar, the creation appears to be a single artwork, but upon closer inspection, the viewer is able to pick up on the many intricate components that have been used to create the piece as a whole.

Hadieh also incorporates script and calligraphy into some of the rolled scrolls, while in others all of the paper ends at an equal depth, or feature the scrolls extending at different levels, bringing new dimensions to the work.
