Online gallery Subject Matter Art is launching in South Africa.
Subject Matter is the brainchild of South African co-founder Liezel Strauss, who started the project in 2011 in Tokyo as part of a crowd-sourced photographic initiative to raise funds for the victims of the Fukushima disaster. It has representatives in Japan, the UK, Canada and now, South Africa.
The idea behind the brand is to make buying fine-art photography a more inclusive and hassle-free experience, to offer something different to the traditional gallery model.

“We want more people to experience the joy of buying an original art piece and how it can transform any space in the home,” says Liezel. “The right piece not only creates a beautiful setting, but enhances the entire feel and mood of a room.”
Should you need advice on collecting or buying, there is a team of Johannesburg-based art experts to assist you. “Our friendly team of expert consultants take a very personal approach, even arranging Skype calls with artists so that buyers can discover first hand more about their inspiration and work,” says Liezel.
With every purchase, Subject Matter offers free shipping and returns on all items, framing services, installation services and certificates of authenticity.
