5 Emerging Creatives To Look Out For at Design Indaba #3: Lesedi Mogale

INTERVIEWED BY Malibongwe Tyilo

Photographer Lesedi Mogale’s work is characterised by black and white documentary style shots of his friends, alongside beautifully lit studio shots, primarily shot on film.

He has a National Diploma in Photography from the Tshwane University of Technology, and is currently working for the South African Military Health Services as a communications officer. He also freelances as a photographer. We caught up with this busy emerging star for a brief chat.

How would you describe, in your own words, what you do?

I’m really a boy. What I’m doing is asking questions… through photography.

What do you think sets your work apart?

I think the visuals serve more as considerations. Again, my work asks questions, as opposed to making statements.

What does it mean for you to be selected as one of Design Indaba’s Emerging Creatives?

A lot! Maybe I’m asking the right questions…

Any plans in the near future that we should know about?

A move in fashion is on the horizon.

We say world domination, you say?

The cosmos!

Come back next week for #4 of our Emerging Creatives to watch. Missed the others? You’ll find the rest of our interviews right here.
