The beloved Cape Town hotel was also named Best Hotel in Africa.
Special Awards in the 2024 Best Hotels List
There were several special awards handed out during the ceremony, which took place on 17 September 2024 in London:
American Express Travel One To Watch Award
Winner: The Peninsula Istanbul
The hotel fills four distinct, interconnected buildings, each with its own unique façade, stretched across the shores of the moody blue Bosphorus and offering unparalleled views of the ancient city beyond.
No.3 Gin Art of Hospitality Award
Winner: Royal Mansour Marrakech
The secret to the hotel’s impeccable service lies underneath the scenic pathways of the gardens, where you’ll find a network of hidden tunnels that staff use to traverse the grounds. This slick, behind-the-scenes service style means the team can deliver exceptional hospitality without ever being intrusive.
Ferrari Trento Most Admired Hotel Group Award 2024
Winner: Aman
The Ferrari Trento Most Admired Hotel Group Award was introduced to spotlight pioneers of the hospitality sector, whose ground-breaking initiatives or mould-breaking methods have made a significant impact on guest experiences around the world. Its first-ever winner, as voted for by the 600 experts that make up The World’s 50 Best Hotels Academy, is Aman (pictured here is Aman Tokyo).
The Best Hotel in Africa 2024
Winner: Mount Nelson
Rooms and suites are as diverse as the ‘Nellie’s’ past and housed in six unique locations. The historic main building room comes with charmingly crooked floorboards and soaring, sconced ceilings. The most charming spaces to sleep are the garden cottages: historic staff bungalows with white picket fences and private rose gardens.
The Best Hotel in Oceania 2024
Winner: The Calile
The Calile is the leafy oasis in the centre of Brisbane that’s upping the city’s design and dining credentials at a rapid pace. The hotel riffs on modernist Miami and Palm Springs vibes, while also nodding to the design stylings of 1960s Australia.
The Best Hotel in South America 2024
Winner: Rosewood São Paulo
Rosewood’s first South American property, opened in 2022, is an architecturally dazzling, art-filled urban oasis set within the São Paulo’s central Cidade Matarazzo – a complex of early 20th-century buildings painstakingly preserved and transformed into glossy stores, hip hangouts and high-end private residences.
Nikka Best New Hotel Award 2024
Winner: Bulgari Tokyo
Opened in 2023, the 98-room establishment is the eighth jewel in the expanding global crown of the Bulgari Hotels & Resorts Collection and exudes unadulterated grown-up glamour, which feels elegant and crafted, rather than bling.
Flor de Caña Eco Hotel Award 2024
Winner: Maroma in Riviera Maya
Located in acres of jungle in the Yucatán Peninsula, the 72-room resort focuses attention on the long-term protection of the biodiversity that surrounds it. Despite undergoing an extensive rebuild (the original iteration of the hotel opened in 1995), it incorporates as much of the previous structure and fittings as possible, with additions using only sustainable locally sourced materials where required.
Best Hotel in North America 2024
Winner: Chablé Yucatán in Chocholá
Since 2016, Chablé has been welcoming guests to its wellness-focused retreat in the heart of the Yucatecan rainforest on Mexico’s east coast. Despite its proximity to the bustling streets of Mérida – just a 25-minute drive away – this world-leading resort sequesters guests from all the noise to create an oasis of calm.
Lavazza Highest New Entry Award 2024
Winner: Raffles London at The OWO
The Edwardian Baroque building once housed politicians, spies and government officials and it feels as if each of the 120 suites has witnessed momentous and often secret events. The most sumptuous are named after the Old War Office’s greatest occupants.
Highest Climber Award 2024
Winner: Atlantis The Royal in Dubai
Home to 795 rooms and suites, 17 restaurants and bars, 17 boutiques, a sprawling wellness space, and no fewer than 90 swimming pools – including Cloud 22 perched high on top of the sky bridge – this is where to stay if you want an all-out bling Dubai experience.
Lost Explorer Best Beach Hotel Award 2024
Winner: Soneva Fushi
Set on one of the Maldives’ northerly atolls, Soneva Fushi is only accessible by a 40-minute seaplane. There are 63 private villas, each with its own personalised 24/7 Barefoot Guardian service. Soneva is widely considered a trailblazer in luxury resort sustainability. It is a pioneer in marine conservation and coral rehabilitation, waste minimisation, community outreach and staff training.
The Best Hotel in Europe 2024 and Carlo Alberto Best Boutique Hotel Award 2024
Winner: Passalacqua
Set in an 18th-century Lake Como villa within spectacular terraced gardens and with just 24 rooms, Passalacqua showcases the finest Italian craftsmanship in a riot of ornate Baroque elegance.
The World’s Best Hotel 2024 and The Best Hotel in Asia 2024
Winner: Capella Bangkok
Located on the Chao Phraya River in the Charoenkrung district, Capella Bangkok is a masterclass in serenity and calm, from the neutral-toned, clean-lined design to the brilliant and seemingly semi-psychic service that anticipates your every waking need. | theworlds50best.com/hotels
