Soweto Art Week

Hosted by Soweto Art and Craft Fair, N8media, the Soweto Theatre in Jabulani and the Eyethu Gallery in Mofolo, the Soweto Art Week will be showcasing a multitude of artists throughout the course of the event with a focus on the expression of what it means to be an African artist today. You can expect various exciting performances from artists, poets and musicians alike, as well as crafts, film, fashion and talks.

SowetoArtWeek

The theme for this year’s Soweto Art Week is focused on exploring African identity, which seeks to unwrap the complexities of African identity within a rapidly changing art landscape through different viewpoints and mediums. Artists featured will include the likes of Mduduzi Twala, Nathi Buthelezi and printmaking collective Sguzu Press, with an aesthetically enriching showcase of more than 30 contemporary artworks that tackle, challenge and explore the changing narrative of African artists.

The opening night is on Wednesday 21 September 2016 at the Soweto Theatre from 6pm – 10pm. There will be an artist walkabout hosted by Mduduzi Twala. For more information, follow Soweto Art Week on Twitter or visit their website here.
