WATCH: The Life and Images of Photographer Dennis Morris

WORDS Mary Garner VIDEO via NOWNESS on Vimeo

This cool clip, directed by Kenji Hirano for NOWNESS, highlights the work and process of iconic punk portrait photographer Dennis Morris, who is behind intimate shots of stars like Bob Marley, Marianne Faithfull and the Sex Pistols.

His career as a photographer was not readily supported by his high school career counsellors, even though he knew from the age of nine that being a photographer was his goal. In this one-on-one video, Dennis chats about his influences, motivations and knack for being in the right place at the right time.

“My photography has always been about people,” says Dennis in the clip. “Even now I’m still fascinated by people and different cultures and it inspires me. It’s always about people for me.”

His pieces have been exhibited in museums and galleries all over the world, from KNOWN in Los Angeles to the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London.
