VISI wins at Loeries

We did it! VISI, along with creative partners 140 BBDO and Native, scooped three awards at this year’s Loeries.

Our innovative iPhone app won the coveted Vodacom Mobile Award (a Gold Loerie) as well as a Silver Loerie, while VISI.co.za bagged a Silver in the Internet, Mobile and Interactive Communication category. VISI.co.za was the only website that won an award.

This year’s Loeries rocked the CTICC in Cape Town, with presenters David Hasselhoff (yes, really!) and Riaan Cruywagen adding humour to the ceremonies on Saturday and Sunday evening.

HelloComputer kicked dust in the eyes of television contenders on Sunday by winning a Grand Prix in the Applications & Interactive Tools category for the Musica ”Flo Browser”, while Ogilvy Cape Town won the other Grand Prix on Saturday evening in the Live Activations category for Volkswagen’s Marching Band campaign.

We’re particularly chuffed about the fact that VISI friend and architect Mokena Makeka of Makeka Design Lab won a Gold for “The People’s Police Station” – a remarkable project that breathed new life into a railway police station in Retreat. Daddy’s World also took home a Gold for the Old Mac Daddy luxury trailer park in Elgin – a must-visit destination for design lovers.

“VISI.co.za and the VISI Covet iPhone app are completely in step with the direction traditional media should be moving in the digital space,” VISI online editor Carine Visagie says.

“The VISI Covet network, which sits across these two platforms, makes it possible for VISI readers to become part of the content-curation process,” she continues. “By uploading images and information about designs they’ve spotted, our readers help fashion VISI’s online and magazine offering. We have 140 BBDO to thank for this creative concept, and salute Native for making it happen in a short space of time.”
