SA’s finest artists, musicians and local brands recently came together for House of Vans Johannesburg – a three-day event that celebrated the best of local and global skate culture.
Located in several major cities around the world, including London, Chicago, New York and now Johannesburg, House of Vans is more than just an event – it’s a creative movement that highlights street art, music and skate culture.
From 1 – 3 November, the brand’s highly-anticipated House of Vans event returned to Johannesburg’s Juta Street for three days of art, design, music, and skateboarding culture. The brand reimagined Juta Street as a creative playground that provided the perfect backdrop for attendees to explore, participate in workshops, and engage with local creative talent.
THE EXPERIENCE
One of the standout experiences was a zine-making workshop led by ALPHABET ZOO and featuring ebumnandini, which celebrated the DIY ethos and storytelling. A board-building workshop focused on engaging the local youth and women from the skating community, while a heat press printing workshop, led by Njabulo Hlophe, gave attendees the chance to print custom designs on T-shirts.
The Vans pop-up store featured an impressive array of local retail partners, including Milk Eyewear, Broke, Bantu Records, Franasonic, Studio Bananaaa, Shelflife, Sealand Gear, and Baseline, and art exhibitions featured local talents like Crispy Skateboards, David Shiffman, Grant McLachlan, Chenai Gwandure, Melissa Williams, Tkay Modise, Kyle Kheswa, and Sam Clarke.
House of Vans is about creating spaces where people can express themselves freely and be inspired by their surroundings—and this event truly captured the essence of Johannesburg’s creative landscape.
