Earlier this year, world-renowned British lighting and furniture designer, Tom Dixon, embarked on a year-long collaboration with leading quartz countertop brand Caesarstone.
The collaboration was first revealed earlier this year in Toronto, Canada, during the annual 2016 Interior Design Show, where they unveiled Ice, the first of what would be four kitchen concepts. Ice referenced the jagged chunks of ice on Canada’s frozen lakes. Fast forward to April at Milan Design Week where they revealed ‘The Restaurant’, a conceptual stand featuring all four kitchens, inspired by the elements – earth, air, fire and water.
It was located at Milan’s Rotonda della Besana, an 18th century monastery that was later turned into Milan Children’s Museum (MUBA). Each kitchen was given its own wing in the structure, as well as an entire food concept by the Arabeschi di Latte food design studio to go with each design.
The Earth Kitchen, which was inspired by ancient Roman structures, features Caesarstone’s brown tones, natural wood accessories, white lighting fixtures, as well as touches of gold from Tom Dixon’s collection. The Fire Kitchen was primarily made out of basalt rock, and accented with gold and copper touches, the best of which were the lampshades which floated above the table. Made out of thin Caesarstone slabs, the Air Kitchen took its inspiration from urban city architecture.
Over the next year, other cities (as yet unannounced) will also play host to the exhibition.
