The Spier Secret Food and Wine Market promises fun surprises and tasty treats on Saturday 27 October.
With an emphasis on natural, organic and biodynamic food and wine, an assortment of food, treats and home-baked goods will be on offer, plus lots of games and activities for young and old. From toffee apple trees to miniature ponies and helium-filled hippos, there are lots of surprises planned but most of them are still a secret.
Of course, the first thing you want to do when you have a secret is tell everyone. In this vein, stallholders at the market will share their family recipes and secret ingredients. Some of the vendors include Woolworth’s best-kept secret suppliers, food trucks such as Bertus Basson’s famous Die Wors-rol and Kobus van der Merwe’s gourmet ice-cream The Soft Machine, and tastings of Spier’s award-winning wines – make a point not to miss the Chenin Blanc.
Forming part of the Spier Secret Festival on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 October, the market is open to conference delegates, as well as the general public. The two-day conference itself promises to be quite an experience with workshops, tastings, installations, home dinners and a Chef’s braai off complementing the speakers. The crazy UK gelatin duo The Jellymongers and progressive Italian eating collective Arabeschi di Latte, not to mention wine guru Isabelle Legeron aka “that crazy Frenchwoman” headline the speaker line-up. Tickets for the full 48-hour sensory feast are R1500.
For those who would just like a taste and seek a great day out with the family, the Spier Secret Food and Wine Market is the perfect bite-size repast. Tickets are R70 for adults and include a wine glass and five Spier wine tasting vouchers. Kids under 18 pay R40 to enter and kids under 12 enter free. The market will be open from 10am to 4pm. Just follow the signs to the Secret Food and Wine Market when you arrive at Spier. Tickets can be booked at Computicket or be bought at the Secret Market Ticket Office on the day.
On Friday 26 October we’re giving away another 10 double tickets to the market in the VISI weekly newsletter.
The winners: Kerryn Kiely, Willemijn Jumelet, Renee Kruger, Erin Carelse, Inonge Malumo, Genevieve Akal, Denishree Naidoo, Norbert Furnon-Roberts, Tebogo Mokgabudi and Hennie Venter
