The Joy! Collection By Pichulik

WORDS Lindi Brownell Meiring

Consisting of lighter, more playful pieces, local jewellery designer Katherine-Mary Pichulik has launched Pichulik’s brand-new SS19 collection.

The range, entitled Joy!, makes reference to Katherine-Mary’s childhood and imagination and the sense of playfulness that came with it. “When I was about 11, slightly lost in myself and the world around me, my innately feminine expression of crafting and collecting emerged, with hours spent immersed in nature, just making things,” she says.

For Katherine-Mary, Joy! is an ode to the journey into adulthood and womanhood, “where we cling to childhood games and rituals, while simultaneously immersed in dream and fantasy, where being a woman was almost a mystical notion.”

The collection makes use of glass beads, shells, freshwater pearls, semi-precious stones, as well as wooden elements made by designer Anne Hodgson, as seen below.

Stand-out pieces include Fauvist-inspired wooden earrings, earrings made up of assembled “stones” in jade, serpentine and crystal and gold-plated brass shells.

Joy! is complemented by #PICHULIKBYNADYA, the sixth collection by designer Nadya von Stein, which is this time around inspired by the journey to find one’s inner child. The apparel collection combines organic hemp linen and striped cottons in a neutral palette with pops of colour.

The collection will be available to purchase online from 27 October 2018. Follow Pichulik on Instagram to keep up to date.
