We first got to know them at Spier Contemporary and Design Indaba; now The Fringe Arts have opened shop on Cape Town’s vibrant Kloof Street.

Chantal Louw and Thessa Bos have perfected the pop-up store concept – to such an extent that their popularity has necessitated a more permanent solution. At their new shop, The Fringe on Kloof, you’ll find a fine selection of designer objects and artworks by some of South Africa’s most exciting creatives.

Pop in to shop for gifts by ceramicists Shirley Fintz and John Bauer, jewellery designers Skermunkil and Beloved Beadwork, and surface designers Skinny Laminx and Fabric Nation. Also be on the lookout for art by Dale Yudelman and Frank van Reenen, and limited-edition prints by Sanell Aggenbach, Georgina Gratix, Candice Breitz and David Goldblatt.

Exciting news is that The Fringe on Kloof also carries a vintage range called Frintage. Chantal and Thessa have hand-picked clothing, accessories and decor items, in collaboration with brands such as London Road and Vintage Lover, to bring clients a well-curated selection of items.

“It’s wonderful to have a shop again,” says Thessa. “It’s something we’ve really missed since closing down the pop-ups at Spier and the V&A on 2 May. One of the many things we love so much about our shop is how people respond to it. Most customers don’t leave without first commenting on our offerings.”

And they’re already part of the Kloof Street community: “During the build up (when Chantal and I walked around in paint clothes, climbed ladders and fixed L-blocks to the wall for three or four weeks straight), so many people from the neighbourhood walked past and gave input on how things were evolving.”

Address: 99B Kloof Street, Cape Town

Opening hours: Monday to Friday from 09h00 – 18h00, Saturday from 09h00 – 17h00
