Hurry up – there are only eight days left to vote for RUF Project’s Football Training Centre in Soweto. Give it your support and it could win the Open Buildings People’s Choice Award at the World Architecture Festival (WAF).
The Soweto soccer spot was designed by Canadian architects RUF and embodies our country’s love of the game. The state-of-the-art facility – with four pitches, a training gym, player lounges and education facility – could scoop the award at the 2011 WAF in Barcelona, so add your vote and make sure it does.
The introduction of the Open Buildings People’s Choice Award, supported by OpenBuildings.com, is a new addition at WAF 2011. It provides an opportunity for members of the public to pick their favourite building among the 281 projects that have been shortlisted for the world’s biggest architectural competition.
The Football Training Centre in Soweto is up against a theatre made of straw in Estonia, a tree hotel in Sweden, a bamboo office in India and a moving gallery in New York, to name a few.
To view the shortlisted projects, cast your vote and provide comments, visit OpenBuildings.com. Votes can be cast by selecting the Facebook “Like” icon on the project page or by downloading the Open Building mobile app from iTunes. The five commentators who leave the most insightful posts will be awarded with free passes to attend WAF from 2 to 4 November.
The closing date for casting votes in the Open Buildings People’s Choice Award is 28 October, when the top three projects with the most votes will go up against each other.
