Decor meets fashion in a new collaboration between textile designer Heather Moore’s brand Skinny laMinx and fashion designer Jessica Harwood’s label Take Care. This is just the type of creativity one would expect in the World Design Capital 2014!
The WDC2014 hum has been gaining momentum throughout 2013 and, now that we are finally in 2014, there’s an exciting and inescapable buzz in the rarefied Cape Town air. As for VISI, we are going mad with excitement to see the kind of work that designers will be presenting this year as Cape Town sets the global design standard.
To kick things off, one of our favourite textile designers, Heather Moore’s label Skinny laMinx, just launched a new fabric collection in collaboration with Jessica Harwood, the designer behind the clothing label Take Care. Titled “Up, Up and Away”, it is Heather’s second collection designed for US quilting company Cloud 9 Fabrics. Jessica then took on the challenge of translating two of Heather’s print designs into lightweight organic fabrics suitable for clothing.
In a promotional effort, Jessica also styled and seamed the fabrics using pared-back signature sartorial style. The result? A summery shell top with a keyhole detail and tapered pants with a draw-cord waistband. The garments themselves are not for sale. The intention behind them is to inspire aspiring designers and home seamstresses to use the fabrics from the range to make their own clothes. The fabric range is available in limited quantities directly from the Skinny la Minx shop at 201 Bree Street, Cape Town.
This certainly won’t be the last collaboration we’ll see coming from Heather this year, Skinny laMinx’s key theme for 2014 being “cross pollination”. Numerous collaborations with local and international designers are on the cards. So buckle up and keep your eyes on the design capital.
